Dentures Tackle Your Advanced Tooth Loss

We recently talked about dental bridges, and how these custom prosthetics can help us take on more minor cases of tooth loss. But what if you have a complicated case of tooth loss, or have lost all of them? At your Wheaton, IL, dental office, we can support a full or partial set of dentures to return function, health, and beauty to your smile.

The Dangers of Major Tooth Loss

When you lose the majority of your teeth, or enough that replacement with a bridge simply isn’t possible, this can cause serious problems for your oral health.  You become severely limited in your mela options, which can deprive you of your favorite dishes and essential nutrients. The ability to speak clearly is difficult, and you could feel embarrassed about your appearance. The stress on your jaw joints could leave you vulnerable to issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). Don’t let the health, function, and appearance of your smile suffer. Talk to our team about a custom set of dentures!

Partials

A partial can handle complicated cases in which you have multiple gaps spread out across your arch. These are issues too severe for a bridge, but that leave you enough natural teeth that a full isn’t necessary either. Our team will take detailed images and impressions of the smile to design and craft a denture, one that contains new teeth designed to fit in the gaps in your smile set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues. Metal clasps will attach to natural teeth to secure these prosthetics, which can last about 5 to 10 years before replacement is necessary. We can discuss soaking and cleaning options to keep them strong and pliable.

Full Dentures

If you’re missing most or all of your teeth, then our team will gently extract the last few and take detailed images and impressions of your bite, which we use in a lab setting to design and craft your full dentures. These will contain a complete row of ceramic teeth, which are designed to look natural and handle daily bite forces and pressures. These are set in an acrylic base, and suction or adhesive will keep them in place.
